Roller Shutter Door Types
Typically used on smaller openings such as doorways, windows, serveries or bars. The main body of the door, more commonly called the ‘curtain,’ can be constructed from steel or aluminium in a number of different styles. The most common being the traditional 3 inch (76mm) curved steel lath.
Used on a vast range of applications, the laths are constructed from galvanised interlocking curved sections, of suitable gauge (material thickness) to suit the size of a particular shutter.
Each alternate lath is fitted with a malleable steel endlock to prevent lateral movement. The base of the curtain is fitted with an inverted galvanised ‘T’ section ‘bottom rail’.
3 inch (76mm) curved steel lath can be provided with either singular or a series of 225 x 30mm punched slots to provide ventilation or vision. Perspex backing strips can also be provided.
The 3 inch (76mm) curved steel lath can also be supplied as ‘perforated’, thousands of 3mm perforations provide near perfect visibility through the curtain, particularly at night to back lit windows displays. The perforations allow approx. 19% air flow through the curtain making them ideal for applications where ventilation as well as security has to be taken into consideration, such as under croft car parks.
Finishes
- Supplied as standard in plain galvanised.
- RAL / BS Powder Coat Option.
- The solid and punched versions can also be provided in a plastisol finish to a limited range of colours.
Where a flusher face is required to give a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to servery hatches and small windows, a 2’ inch (51mm) flat steel lath is also available. As with the 3 inch curved steel lath, a perforated version is also available.

An insulated shutter curtain is made from a number of interlocking sections called Insulaths. Two Insulaths are interlocked to form one twin walled lath.
The cavity is then in-filled with an environmentally friendly CFC free insulation. The result is a thermally efficient barrier, that provides the inside of a building with protection from outside extremes. This means is that an Insulath door can be installed to combat both cold and excess heat.
Insulath curtains have a thermal value of 0.69W/m2K and an acoustic value of 18dB(A). As derived by the University of Central England calculations. Punched vision panels with polycarbonate glazing are available.
